The highlighting tool allows you to highlight useful information and collect those highlights into a Word document for offline reading. The collect vocab tool lets you use the highlighting tool to highlight single words and creates a Word document with definitions.
Highlighting
Using the Read&Write highlighting tool is a good way to gather important information from a page.
- Open Read&Write.
- Select the text you wish to highlight.
- Click on any of the four highlighting icons in the toolbar to highlight the text in that color. The Colors are used to organize highlights.
- Repeat the previous steps until you have finished highlighting on the page.
Note for the Read&Write browser extension: If you navigate away from the current page, you will lose all currently highlighted items on that page.
Collecting Highlights
The Collect Highlights tools downloads highlighted text to your device as a Microsoft Word Document.
- After you have highlighted items on the page, click on the “Collect highlights” icon.
- Choose to sort highlights either by color or position and choose which color highlights you wish to collect.
- Click “Ok.”
- A Microsoft Word Document of the highlighted text will be downloaded to your device.
Collecting Vocab
The Collect Vocab tool provides dictionary definitions of highlighted words in a Microsoft Word Document. This tool is best used when highlighting single words. Example:
- Click on the “Vocabulary List” icon.
- Choose Which color highlights you wish to collect.
- Click “Ok.”
- A Microsoft Word Document will be downloaded. The document will contain a table with four columns. The word, its definition, a picture dictionary icon, and a space for personal notes.
Clearing Highlights
You can use the "Clear Highlights" tool to remove one or more highlights on a page.
- Select the text where you wish to remove the highlights.
- Select the "Clear Highlights" tool in the Read&Write toolbar. The highlights will be removed from your selected text.
