Improve Your Presentation Skills with PowerPoint Speaker Coach
PowerPoint Speaker Coach lets you practice your presentations privately while receiving real-time, AI-powered feedback. As you rehearse, Speaker Coach listens and evaluates several key aspects of your delivery, including:
- Pacing – Are you speaking too fast or too slow?
- Pitch – Is your tone varied and engaging?
- Filler words – Identifies excessive use of words like “um,” “uh,” and “like.”
- Informal speech – Flags casual or unprofessional language.
- Euphemisms – Detects phrases that may be unclear or inappropriate.
- Culturally sensitive terms – Ensures your language is respectful and inclusive.
- Wordiness – Highlights when you’re using too many words unnecessarily.
- Reading from slides – Notifies you if you’re simply reading text aloud rather than presenting.
At the end of your rehearsal, you’ll receive a detailed report with personalized feedback and suggestions to help you improve your presentation skills and become a more confident speaker.
Requirements for Using PowerPoint Speaker Coach
To use PowerPoint Speaker Coach effectively, the following requirements and recommendations should be met:
- You must be signed in with a Microsoft account (e.g., your SNHU account).
- A microphone is necessary so the tool can listen to your speech.
- An internet connection is required to access Speaker Coach.
- It’s recommended to rehearse in a quiet room to minimize background noise.
- Only one speaker should be presenting at a time. Speaker Coach may not function properly if multiple people are speaking.
Currently, Speaker Coach only supports English and is only available when your Office user interface language is set to English. For help changing this setting, refer to the guide on changing the language Office uses.
How to use Speaker Coach (Desktop Application)
- Open your presentation in PowerPoint for desktop.
- In the Slide Show tab, in the Rehearse group, select "Rehearse with Coach". The presentation opens in a full-screen view, similar to Slide Show.

- Select "Start Rehearsing" in the dialog box when you are ready to begin rehearsing. To receive on-screen guidance, check that "Show real-time feedback" is selected.

- Wait to start speaking until you see "Listening..." appear in the dialog box.

- As you speak, Coach gives on-screen guidance about pacing, inclusive language, use of profanity, filler words, and whether you're reading the slide text.

- When you are through, exit full-screen view. Coach opens a Rehearsal Report that summarizes what it observed, and offers recommendations. To see the recommendations, select "Learn More" in the section of the Rehearsal Report that you want more information about.

- After you review your Rehearsal Report, close the window or select "Rehearse Again" to practice the recommendations you have received.
How to use Speaker Coach (Web App)
- Open your presentation in PowerPoint for the web.
- Go to the "Slide Show" tab and select "Rehearse with Coach". If you have turned off the Simplified Ribbon, use the "View" tab instead to start Speaker Coach.
- Your presentation will open in full-screen mode, similar to a regular slide show.
- Click "Start Rehearsing" in the lower-right corner when you are ready to begin.
- As you speak, Speaker Coach provides real-time feedback in the lower-right corner of the screen. It monitors:
- Pacing
- Inclusive language
- Profanity
- Filler words
- Reading directly from the slides
- When you’re done, exit full-screen mode. Speaker Coach will generate a Rehearsal Report summarizing your performance and providing recommendations for improvement.

Speaker Coach Report and Suggestions
PowerPoint Speaker Coach will provide real time suggestions and a post-presentation report of your rehearsal.
The report covers:
- Delivery: pace, filler words, pitch, and pronounciation.
- Content: originality, inclusiveness, speech refinements, and repetitive words.
- Audience Engagement: body language (only available for PowerPoint on the web).
