Read&Write Dictionary and Picture Dictionary Tools (Browser Extensions)

The Dictionary tool with Read&Write offers quick definitions for selected words. The Picture Dictionary tool shows simple pictures based on selected words.

Note: This article covers the Dictionary tools using Read&Write's browser extensions, which function slightly differently than the Read&Write desktop application. For desktop application instructions, please go to the following links:

Dictionary

  • Highlight a single word on your screen. You can either click and drag your cursor over the word, or double click on the word.

  • Select the Dictionary icon from the Read&Write toolbar. A small box will appear with dictionary definitions for the selected word and example sentences.

  • Press the play button next to each definition to have that definition read aloud.

In some cases, you can highlight multiple words and receive a dictionary definition from those words. For example, if you highlight "graphic design," you will see a definition of graphic design. Your results may vary.

Picture Dictionary

  • Select the Picture Dictionary icon from the Read&Write toolbar. A small box will appear with a simple picture identifying the selected word.
